Potential for Social Enterprise

The University of the Free State and GreaterCapital conducted a study with the ILO to gauge the potential for, and the feasibility of supporting, a social-enterprise approach among existing and new NPOs in the Free State. Recent research and dynamics within the international NPO environment has shown that a shift toward social enterprise approaches might lead not only to financial sustainability but also to stimulating job-creation.

The report, The potential of non-profit organizations in the Free State Province to adopt a social enterprise approach, was produced under the auspices of the South Africa SME Observatory – a public-private partnership aimed at informing evidence based advocacy and dialogue for the purposes of constructive business development.
